ByGraham Huband
Fife heavy engineering group BiFab yesterday secured a £4million contract with oil giant BP to fabricate the flare boom for its massive new Clair Ridge platform, west of Shetland.
The company said the contract – which will run through until December – secured 30 jobs within the wider workforce currently based at its Burntisland yard.
John Robertson, BiFab Managing Director, said “Our facility in Burntisland is ideal for these types of projects.
“We can compete locally and internationally over a wide range of large and small projects ensuring long term employment opportunities for up to 200 people”.
Clair Ridge project general manager Chris Rees said: “Clair Ridge is an important part of BP’s continued investment west of Shetland, and BP’s future in the North Sea.
“We look forward to working with BiFab to provide the flare boom for the new Clair Ridge platform.”
