A section of a Dundee supermarket car park has been sealed off after a vehicle burst into flames.
Onlookers captured the moment a motor was engulfed in smoke within the Asda Dundee Milton Superstore on Sunday.
Shoppers said the blaze started near the main entrance of the Mid Craigie store at around 1.30pm.
It’s understood two other vehicles suffered minor damage during the incident as a cordon was erected around the area.
Customer, Stephen Hambley, was inside the store when an announcement came over the tannoy to say a vehicle was on fire.
Customers started ‘rushing’ out the store
Stephen, 51, praised the quick response of the emergency services as he feared it could have been a lot worse.
The Trottick resident videoed the incident as firefighters were tackling the blaze as smoke billowed over the car park.
He said: “We had been in Asda Milton for 10-15 minutes and there was no fire upon our arrival.
“The first announcement came over the tannoy asking for the owner to go to their car.
“Then there was a second announcement asking for the owner of a vehicle registration to please return to their car as it was on fire.
“People started rushing out to see if it was beside their car.
“When we got outside it was totally engulfed in flames, the fire crew had just arrived and commenced distinguishing the flames.
“There was damage to two other cars.
“It could of been far worse if it was not for the quick response of the emergency services.
“Many onlookers were totally shocked at the extent of the fire.”
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed one appliance was dispatched to the scene.
She said: “We received a call at 1.30pm of a vehicle on fire within a car park at Milton of Craigie Rd.
“One appliance was dispatched to the scene and one hose reel jet was in use.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We were called around 1.55pm to assist SFRS with the situation.
“However, there was no further involvement from the police and SFRS continue to deal with the incident.”
