Locals speak of shock at body found in Cellardyke
Cellardyke residents saw police and other emergency services at the harbour following the discovery.
One local, who asked not to be named, said: “My sister was up early and around 8.30am she saw some dog walkers looking at something at the harbour.
“She got her binoculars to see what it was and saw it was a body. She thought it was a mannequin at first.
“Someone must have called the police because by the back of nine the body had been covered and there were police photographers there. The street had been blocked off as well.
“It’s a shock. It’s a quiet area and you don’t expect something like this.”
Another local added: “We have a harbour locals group chat and people were saying the fire brigade, police and ambulance service were all there.
“There was green tarpaulin covering something but you could tell by the shape it was a body. The emergency services also held up a sheet so people couldn’t see it.
“You can’t believe it, that poor guy. You don’t think that it would happen here.”
Police thank public for help to identify man
Detective Inspector Stuart Hunter said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man at this very difficult time and they have asked for privacy to be respected.
“We would like to thank everyone who responded to our appeal which has helped with our inquiries.
“The death is currently being treated as unexplained but not believed to be suspicious.
“A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.”
