The body of a man has been found on the foreshore at Arbroath.
The grim discovery is understood to have been made by a member of the public around 6pm on Sunday evening on a grassy banking at the town’s South Street.
It sparked a significant police presence, with a large part of the foreshore immediately cordoned off.
Paramedics were also in attendance but it is understood the male was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have confirmed the death but said that enquiries into the tragedy are at an early stage, with efforts continuing to identify the man and inform next of kin.
However, there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.
Locals said they were unaware of anything untoward in the area until the arrival of a number of police vehicles.
