The body of a 71-year-old Dundee man has been found floating in a Spanish marina next to his boat.
The unnamed man’s body was pulled out of the water on Sunday just after mid-day, by local police in the Spanish town of La Linea, which borders Gibraltar.
It is understood the 71-year-old had been living on a boat at the Alceidesa Marina for several months.
An autopsy is due to be carried out to determine the cause of death, and to find out whether there were any suspicious circumstances.
It is not known how long the man’s body had been in the water.
The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirmed a British national had died on Sunday November 27.
A spokesman for the FCO said: “We are providing support to the family of a British national who died in Cádiz, Spain, on 27 November.”
An investigating judge has been appointed and it is understood the Guardia Civil (Civil Guard) are involved in the investigation.
A spokesman for the Guardia Civil said: “I can confirm the body of a British man aged 71 has been found in a marina in La Linea.
“It is still being investigated.”
La Linea de la Concepción borders the British overseas territory of Gibraltar, and is in the Spanish province of Cadiz in Andlucia in the south of the country.
Alcaidesa Marina is situated in La Linea in the Strait of Gibraltar, and is a natural enclave on Gibraltor Bay.
The marina is used as a general port and also as a lay-over stop for boats sailing through the Strait and on to the Mediterranean Sea, or to Morocco.
The Guardia Civil are Spain’s oldest law enforcement agency, and are controlled by the Spanish government’s Ministry of the Interior. They are identifiable by their green military style uniforms and generally handle policing in rural Spanish areas with populations under 20,000 people.
