Professor Nigel Seaton has taken up his post as principal of Abertay University.
He was welcomed to the campus by Nigel Hawkins, chairman of the university court, and William Mohieddeen, president of the students’ association.
Prof Seaton, who is originally from Falkirk, said he was honoured by his appointment and it was a pleasure to join the ”Abertay family”.
”This is a university with much to be proud of and I look forward to working with colleagues, the court and our students, to lead the university to even greater success in the future,” he added.
Mr Hawkins said: ”Prof Seaton brings a depth and wealth of experience and personal qualities to his new role.”
Prof Seaton has become only the second principal of the university, succeeding Prof Bernard King whose suspension and eventual departure last year provoked moves to force Abertay into a merger with Dundee University.
These were eventually fended off and his arrival marks a new chapter in the university’s development.
Prof Seaton, whose academic background is in chemical engineering, comes to Dundee from his post as senior deputy vice-chancellor of Surrey University.
He was previously vice-principal of Edinburgh University.
