A Mearns coach driver has been sacked following an “outrageous” manoeuvre at a blackspot junction.
MW Nicoll transport manager Sylvia McClure said the driver had been dismissed with immediate effect following an internal investigation.
An eyewitness photographed an MW Nicoll coach stacking up beside two vehicles in the central reservation of the notorious A90 Laurencekirk junction during Monday evening’s rush hour.
It is understood the coach driver was the last of three to join the central reservation from the A937 blocking the line of sight before being first to pull out and join the dual carriageway.
The picture was posted on the Facebook page of the Laurencekirk flyover campaign and prompted a storm of controversy.
Mrs McClure said: “After our internal investigation, we have terminated the employment of the offending driver with immediate effect.”
Flyover campaigner Jill Fotheringham said the incident illustrated the frustration drivers feel when waiting to cross the junction.
She added: “It looks more like a car park than a crossing and that coach must have been sticking out into the fast lane.
“This type of driving is harassment of other road users and once your line of sight is blocked like that it is terrifying.
“I am not blaming the company for this because it’s the driver who is at fault. It could have been catastrophic.”
The four-mile stretch of the A90 that runs between Laurencekirk and Fordoun has claimed 11 lives since the turn of the century.
