An Angus teenager who vandalised a public bandstand has been placed on a community payback order.
Aaron Steele from Kirriemuir broke a wooden pane at the town’s Den area last year out of “boredom” and peer pressure according to his solicitor.
Forfar Sheriff Court heard the 16-year-old broke a window the next day.
Depute fiscal Catriona Dickie said: “At 4.40pm on the 27th of June a witness was walking down from his lock-up on Slate Gardens, and could hear banging from the Den area.
“He saw three male youths around the bandstand holding what he thought was golf clubs.
“The accused was seen to hit the wooden part of the stand and knock a panel out.”
Ms Dickie added: “On the 28th of June the witness was at home and could hear someone shouting outside.
“He could not hear what the accused was shouting and opened his window.
“He told him he must have got the wrong person and closed the window, then moved through to the kitchen.”
Steele threw a stone through the window and ran off.
The court heard the damage in the first charge was £50, and £80 for the second.
Nick Markowski said the first offence came about through “boredom, immaturity, and peer group pressure.”
Sheriff Pino Di Emidio imposed a community payback order for one year and 60 hours of unpaid work.
