A 90-year-old Dundee woman nicknamed the city’s “queen of swing” will dust off a repertoire of jazz classics at a performance.
Yvonne Robb was lead singer with the Alan Ainsworth Orchestra in the 1950s and 1960s, and she has appeared at the London Palladium on the same bill as Shirley Bassey, Ronnie Hilton and Frankie Vaughan.
Following a string of performances at the City Variety Halls, Yvonne curtailed her career for family reasons and came back to her home town of Dundee, where she continued delighting audiences with her voice and keyboard skills.
The Northern Hotel in Brechin has invited Yvonne to sing during its third annual concert with the Storyville All Stars, a Dixieland “supergroup” made up of players from Havana Swing and The East Coast Jazzmen with invited guests.
The All Stars undertook a tour of the London area in 2012 when they appeared at the famous Oxford Street jazz venue, the 100 Club.
Two guest vocalists from Montrose, Caroline Allan and Coral McMullan, will appear along with bassist/vocalist Calum McKenzie who will contribute a number relevant to Brechiners River Stay Away from my Door.
The night starts at 8pm and a ticket costs £15 including food at the interval.
