An Arbroath woman said she was left “feeling sick” after vandals targeted her car just 10 days after she bought it.
Layla Brown, 29, picked up the Volkswagen Polo from Barnetts in Dundee having saved up for more than a year to buy the £11,000 vehicle.
But she was shocked to find on Sunday that vandals had jumped all over the roof of the car severely denting it and leaving footprints.
The car was a birthday present she bought herself after turning 29 at the start of February.
Layla, who is a self-employed singer and music teacher, said: “I’ve worked really hard to get this car.
“When I got it there was only 10 miles on the clock.
“I left it in Helen Street car park by the train station in Arbroath because I was going out with friends in Dundee.
“I returned less than 12 hours later and when I got home and locked the car that’s when I noticed the damage.
“Now I’ve been told it might need a whole new roof.
“While it’s maybe just a joke to whoever did this, there are both financial and emotional consequences to their actions.”
Layla took the damaged car into a garage in Arbroath where staff estimated the cost of repairs would be anything up to £3,000.
She now plans to contact insurers to find out how much of the bill she would need to foot herself.
Layla said: “The whole episode has left me feeling sick.
“I had to work really hard to buy the car and then someone just goes and does that days after I get it.
“It’s the first time I’ve bought a brand new car as well. I started off feeling sick, then I became quite upset.
“Whoever did this is a total idiot.”
A police spokeswoman confirmed officers are aware of the incident.
She said: “Police Scotland is making inquiries into vandalism to a car in Helen Street, Arbroath, that happened between 1.50pm on Saturday February 20 and 1pm on Sunday February 21.
“The bonnet and roof of the black Volkswagen Polo were damaged.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
