Montrose fans are being urged to be on their best behaviour this weekend following claims a minority of fans could attempt to disrupt the Scottish League play-off match against Brora Rangers.
The Gable Endies trail 1-0 following the first leg and will fall out of the senior leagues if they can’t turn the tie around.
There are now concerns unahppy fans may invade the pitch in a bid to get the match abandoned if they remain in a losing position.
A posting on the club’s Facebook page urged fans to be on their best behaviour.
“It has been brought to the attention of the club that should the result be going against the club a minority of Montrose Football Club supporters may wish to attempt to enter the field of play and cause the match to be abandoned,” the statement says.
Club offiials are clearly concerned about the potential impact on the club and are reminding fans that TV cameras will be at the game.
“This action, besides marring a great day, will inevitably lead to police action, sanctions from SFA and SPFL and bring unwanted publicity to our great club,” the statement continues.
“Please bear in mind besides many press reporters at the game, SKy and other TV companies are attending the match and the reporting of such an incident can only harm our reputation.
“Many thanks for the support of all fans attending the game on Saturday.”
