An Angus nightclub is planning to transform into a cinema for part of the week if it can get an under-18s licence from Angus Council on Thursday.
Chalmers Nightclub in Arbroath has already installed a Dolby 7.1 surround sound system and a 6.5 metre by 3.5 metre screen.
The Queens Drive club could accommodate up to 100 people for a screening and it hopes to be able to show films just a few weeks after they are released into cinemas.
If it gets the under-18s licence, it plans to try a variety of viewings including Saturday morning children’s shows, weekend evening shows and mid-week specialist screenings.
Angus does not have a cinema, with the nearest facilities to Arbroath located in Dundee. Plans for a cinema in Montrose are also under way.
In a separate appeal to the licensing board, the club is also hoping to obtain a late licence until 3am. This would bring the former Waterfront club in line with similar clubs in Dundee.
Chalmers owner Andrew Henderson is also developing a restaurant to the rear of the club, which would be a six-figure investment.
