Simple Minds’ Stonehaven concert gets the green light
ByGraeme Strachan
Scots rockers Simple Minds’ Hogmanay show at Stonehaven will go ahead after all following a lengthy meeting in the town.
Thursday’s special meeting of the Kincardine and Mearns area committee was held behind closed doors after councillors took the decision to exclude the Press and public.
Police had previously raised safety fears which looked like seeing the plug pulled on the extravaganza but today a licence for the proposed Open Air in the Square gig was granted by councillors.
The gig will run alongside the famous fireballs ceremony which brings 20,000 to the town each year.
All 5,500 tickets for the Simple Minds gig were snapped up within hours of going on sale.
