Youngsters who caused trouble at Monifieth Golf Club have been branded “horrors”.
Members and staff were intimidated by the youths, claiming they were stopped from leaving when a large pot plant was pushed in front of the door.
They also allege the louts were carrying a knife and that the halyard was cut on the flagpole.
Club manager Ray Moir said: “First they appeared at the windows and gave me the fright of my life.
“Then they started to lob stones that made a huge amount of noise on the roof and the windows.
“We couldn’t get out of the clubhouse because they’d pushed over a big plant across the door. We had to force it open once they’d gone.
“They’re horrors, really they are.”
The damage to the flagpole was discovered the following day.
“It was only the next morning we noticed that the halyard on the flagpole had been cut in two different places,” Mr Moir said.
“It’s annoying because we have to take the whole flagpole down to replace it now.
“But I’m also very worried if these young people are carrying knives or blades around. They could be a danger to each other or to someone in the community.
“Why would someone be carrying a knife in normal society? It’s quite threatening to think people are armed on our streets like this. I think it’s very scary.”
As no one was hurt and no serious damage was caused, the club decided not to report Wednesday’s incident to the police.
A police spokeswoman said: “It is particularly concerning that a knife or similar implement is suspected to have been used in this incident and we would urge anyone with information to contact our officers.
“Police Scotland would always encourage residents and businesses to report any antisocial behaviour, disorder or suspicious incidents in their area. Police Scotland can be contacted at any time on 101, or in an emergency contact 999.”
