Angus girl Brooke Ramsay is finally living her dream of riding a bike nine months on from a life-changing operation.
The eight-year-old cerebral palsy sufferer took to the saddle unaided for the first time, following a campaign that opened treatment pathways for other Scottish children.
Parents Stewart (39) and Laura (33), from Carnoustie, have been amazed by their daughter’s progress since they launched a fundraising appeal in summer 2011.
They said: “This all started in August 2011, when The Courier wrote about how Brooke just wanted to play and ride her bike like her friends.”
Stewart added: “Nine months after her surgery, Brooke cycled unaided for the very first time. We didn’t really anticipate that this would happen so soon, but it has and we are ecstatic.”
Brooke was the first Scottish child to undergo selective dorsal rhizotomy which involves cutting nerves to eliminate spasticity in limbs in a UK hospital.
