The closure of the public recycling centre at Marchbanks is to be reviewed.
City council administration leader Ken Guild accepted the suggestion by independent councillor Ian Borthwick at a meeting of the policy and resources committee on Monday night.
Mr Borthwick said the northern and central parts of the city had been left devoid of recycling facilities since Marchbanks closed.
The move was part of budget-saving measures.
Labour group leader Kevin Keenan said £608,000 earmarked for ash disposal had not been spent and could be used to get the plant reopened.
Mr Guild refused to be drawn on the timescale for the review, saying: “I am not putting a time limit on it. The review will take as long as it requires.”
The committee formally approved the scrapping of changes to the two remaining recycling centres at Riverside and Baldovie, which led to bulky and mixed waste being banned from the former and garden waste from the latter.
The move came after The Courier carried a special series of articles examining the effects of the changes.
Mr Guild said he accepted it had been an unpopular policy, although recycling figures had improved recently.
It will take about two weeks to reverse the changes and take all types of waste at both sites again.
