Dundee’s new Malmaison hit by flooding just before opening

Dundee’s new Malmaison hotel has been hit by flooding.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after water was spotted running down the side of the building. Firefighters reported that the flooding, which affected 15 bedrooms, had been caused by an electrical fault.
Malmaison bosses said they did not expect the accident to affect their scheduled opening on Sunday.
Duty Officer Mark McInally said: “One unit attended to confirm it and our officers then made efforts to contact the Malmaison hotel in Glasgow to let them know.
“They told us it was not currently owned by them but they would find the contractor and let them know. We then phoned the fire service at 12.06am.”
Five firefighters attended the scene shortly after midnight and left at 1.43am. Phyllis Wilkie, sales manager of the Dundee Malmaison, said: “We are aware of the flooding and we are currently assessing the damage.
“At the moment we do not anticipate it affecting the opening this weekend and, if that changes, we will certainly be letting the public know.”
The waterfront hotel is set to open after the completion of a £15 million overhaul of the former Tay Hotel.
