A woman was issued with a parking ticket from the city council hours after her space became “the most famous in Dundee”.
A disabled bay allocated to Morag Lennie, of Brantwood Avenue, raised eyebrows when passersby noticed it had been painted half on the road and half on the pavement.
But a day after the bizarre council paint job was highlighted, Morag was given a ticket for parking in the space.
She said: “I’m livid. In the nine-and-a-half years I have lived here, I’ve never seen a parking warden, not once. I was still asleep when it happened but my neighbour saw it all. She said a white van pulled up, went straight for my car and ticketed it and drove off, without bothering with the five other cars all parked on the kerb.”
Morag did admit that she had forgotten to put the blue disabled badge in the window when she parked, having been out dealing with an emergency.
She said: “I came home quite distressed and putting the blue badge up slipped my mind. However, I wasn’t sureI even needed to display the blue badge when using the space, given that it has been allocated to me and all my details are linked to it. The tax disc tells people it is a Motability vehicle and the fact it’s the most famous parking bay in Dundee at the moment due to it being pictured … makes it seem a bit bizarre.
“I fully intend to appeal the ticket. I’m not paying it and I don’t care what they threaten me with.”
A Dundee City Council spokesman said: “Drivers should be aware that whenever a vehicle is parked in a space reserved for blue badge holders the badge must be displayed at all times.”
