A disabled great-grandad whose attempts to climb a set of stairs inspired hundreds of Dundonians has been given a new lease of life.
Lucy Fraser, daughter of Gordon, 73, recorded her dad – who suffers from a neurological condition which affects his mobility – crawling up the stairs of her Dundee home after being refused permission to install a stair-lift.
Lucy said it was decided the property was not suitable for a stairlift because her 10-year-old son also lives there and itcould pose a health and safety hazard.
The mother-of-four was left horrified by her dad’s struggle and decided to film the 73-year-old in an attempt to publicise his plight.
The footage, which has since been viewed more than 12,000 times, caught the attention of local charity hero Charlie Kean.
Appalled by Gordon’s predicament, Charlie quickly located a stair-lift and donated it to Gordon. His kind actions have delighted Lucy, 39.
She told The Courier: “Dad is over the moon.
“He had a little cry after Charlie left.”
A spokesman for Dundee City Council said the authority will be approaching the family to see what support can be offered.
He said: “We will be contacting the family directly to discuss their situation with them and to listen to their concerns.
“Council officers will help to find the best and most appropriate ways to support the family.”
