Police today pulled a gun from the River Tay at City Quay, just metres from where families were enjoying a sunny day at Dundee’s waterfront.
Officers were seen inspecting the weapon, which was recovered within sight of the police forensics laboratory on West Victoria Dock Road.
Police are not connecting it to any crime at present, The Courier understands.
Passer-by Kimi Cowie-McCash saw officers clustered round something on the ground.
She said: “I saw four metallic objects, approximately 12-14 inches in length. One looked similar to the inside barrel of a gun, but I couldn’t be sure.
“I couldn’t get close but it certainly looked like a gun.
“The four of them were standing around the items so it was hard to say if they were wet, rusted or simply left.
“There were rust marks on the ground where the guns were, so I think they may have pulled them from the water.”
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland attended in Marine Parade Walk, Dundee at about 11.40am this morning following a report that items had been seen off the shoreline.
“Officers attended and the items are being examined and the matter is under enquiry.”
