Plans to hold a major live music festival at Camperdown Park in Dundee in October have been given the green light by councillors.
The city’s licensing committee on Thursday rubber-stamped the application by Dundee-based promoters Jam Promotions, who hope to attract up to 26,000 fans over two days on October 5 and 6.
The licence was granted, subject to 15 conditions being met, after Police Scotland and the other emergency services, along with Dundee City Council Health and Safety officers, approved the group’s event safety plan.
Jam In The Park, which will be run along the lines of the Radio 1 Big Weekend, could see two massive tents holding a total of 12,000 paying customers, plus 1,000 “VIP guests” each day over the autumn holiday weekend.
At the meeting, Chief Inspector Conrad Trickett said Police Scotland had been in “significant discussions” with the promoters and the event/production manager, Rab Randall, who has extensive experience in event management, including producing Edinburgh’s Hogmanay street party.
He said public safety, trafficmanagement, security and stewardingconsiderations had all been met satisfactorily, although he added that severalconditions should be met as the projectprogressed through the next stages.
Mr Randall pointed out that events like this required evolving documentation and he “absolutely agreed” with the police and said once the licence was granted, they could now move on and start to fulfil those conditions.
Councillor John Alexander said: “We need something like this to showcase the vibrant music scene in Dundee, particularly involving a stage for the localup-and-coming talent.”
Mike Craig from Jam Promotions said: “Everybody, including Ticketmaster, is very confident that we can sell tickets quite well. There’s nothing like this in Dundee, and the infrastructure is all in place.”
His partner Jim Louden said:“We’re in discussion with a lot ofbands, people who would cross overRadio 1 and Radio 2, and I reallyhope the people of Dundee supportthis.”
