The campaign to secure a game- changing air route from Dundee to Amsterdam has begun in earnest.
It is believed the link could be the key to the future success of Dundee Airport and the UK Government is investigating whether it can subsidise the flight.
Dundee West MP Chris Law has launched a petition to see that happen and hopes that it will help to persuade officials to make the route a reality.
More than 150 people signed the petition in a matter of hours and Mr Law hopes more names will follow.
Flybe are proposing to operate the flight to Europe’s biggest aviation hub alongside their current Stansted route.
Almost £3 million of taxpayers’ money is already ploughed into maintaining Dundee’s air link with London.
And it is hoped a similar deal can be struck to create a route to the Netherlands.
Mr Law said: “Dundee Airport is a massive asset to our city and has served us well but we need to continue to attract investment and promote an expansion of flight routes to ensure it competes with other airports in Scotland.
“Opening up a link with Amsterdam Schiphol would clearly bring additional benefits to the city in terms of business opportunities.
“Over and above that, it would also provide local holidaymakers with more options in terms of booking international travel.
“I very much hope the UK Government will listen to Dundee’s calls and support investment in this new route.”
