VIDEO: Wartime graffiti found in Dundee shop’s storeroom
ByAndrew Argo
A fascinating insight into the life and thoughts of people in wartime Dundee has been uncovered in the storeroom of a shop that is soon to close.
Graffiti showing a battle between German and British military aircraft and a caricature of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler has been found on a basement wall of the Millets outdoor clothing and camping equipment shop in Cowgate.
The pencil drawings on the plaster background lay hidden until the room was cleared by Millets staff preparing for the store’s imminent closure.

Millets did exist at 23 Cowgate at the time, but, as Saturday’s Courier discovers, there is intrigue over whether the graffiti was the work of their staff or employees of the King’s Theatre next door.
