A Dundee charity that provides care for people with learning disabilities has launched a £4000 fundraising appeal for a special trip to Oz.
But rather than a voyage Down Under, Gowrie Care is hoping to raise £4,000 so its Glee Club Drama Group can stage an out-of-this-world performance of The Wizard of Oz next year.
“Through Crowdfunder we hope to raise £4,000 by December 23 to help this unique group of budding actors, who have a range of support needs, put on the performance of their life in a production of the Wizard of Oz in 2015,” said Julie Horan, Gowrie Care improvements coordinator.
“This money will be used to help fund sets, props, costumes and publicity.”
Although the appeal has just launched, donations of more than £200 have already been made but the charity is hoping everyone, and their little dog too, will pitch in to help the charity put on a magical show next year.
Anyone who wants to make a contribution and help the troupe reach their own Emerald City can follow the online Yellow Brick Road to donate here.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was written by L Frank Baum in 1900.
A film, called The Wizard of Oz, was made in 1939 starring Judy Garland.
It is one of the most famous films in cinema history. A cowardly lion costume used in the production sold for £1.9 million at auction in New York this week.
