Councillor says £1 million investment in Auchmuty Learning Centre will boost all of Glenrothes

Councillor Ian Sloane has welcomed the £1 million boost to refurbish Auchmuty Learning Centre.
Councillor Ian Sloane has welcomed the £1 million boost to refurbish Auchmuty Learning Centre.

A major investment in Auchmuty Learning Centre will benefit the whole of Glenrothes, a town councillor has said.

Plans have been formally submitted for a £1 million renovation and expansion of the building, located on Alexander Road.

Having seen huge demand for its services in recent years, the Fife Council investment has been deemed crucial to bring the centre up to date.

Local councillor Ian Sloan has hailed the cash injection, saying: “The building has been creaking at the seams, doing important work for the whole of Glenrothes.

“There are satellites at the Lomond Centre and Cadham, but the bulk of the work is still done at the main building.

“However, there hasn’t been much investment in it for many years and we have identified a real need to improve it.”

Established to improve learning opportunities for adults, the Auchmuty Learning Centre is run by Fife Council and works in partnership with local colleges and other organisations.

As well as providing training opportunities involving computer and IT skills, the centre is also home to job clubs, providing advice on CV writing, interview skills and job searches.

The investment will see a complete overhaul of the building, with new learning areas and classrooms established.

Meanwhile, an elderly underfloor heating system will be replaced, while new windows will be put in place to cut energy bills.

The car park will also be expanded to cater for the building’s growing popularity.

With an increased focus on adult education in recent years, councillor Sloan said that investment in this sector would have huge benefits for people in the town.

“What this investment will give us is a more modern building,” he added.

“It’s near the town centre and bus station so it is already in an ideal location, but this investment will bring it right up to the 21st century.

“It’s been two years in the making but we are at an important milestone now.

“It is such a valuable resource.”
