The grandmother of a Fife teenager killed in a weekend car crash is struggling to coming to terms with his death.
Elizabeth McBay described Kristoffer Brister as a “special person” after he died when the car he was travelling in crashed into a wall in Leven.
The 19-year-old, who lived in the town, was in a silver Peugeot 106 on the A915 Windygates Road in the early hours of Saturday when the vehicle collided with the brick wall.
He died at the scene.
Speaking on behalf of his family, Mrs McBay said: “Kris was a special person to everyone that knew him.
“He was a popular and well liked young man. We loved him dearly he always had time for his family and friends, and his loss is very hard for us all to take.
“Many people have told us how special Kris was to them and have paid their respects, but we would now ask to be left to grieve in peace.”
A resident whose house overlooks the crash site said rescue efforts continued throughout the early hours after the crash at about 1.45am.
The resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “I saw six cop cars, two fire engines and two ambulances. The fire crews put a big screen up so you couldn’t see anything, but somebody was trapped.
“A mortuary van arrived and they must have taken the body away at about 9.30am.”
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is due to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.
