Man dies and police officer injured during incident in Kirkcaldy

A man, said to be waving a knife, has died and a female police officer has been injured in a Kirkcaldy incident.
The drama unfolded in the early hours of the morning in the town’s Hayfield Road, a quiet street not far from the Victoria Hospital.
One local woman said a man was reportedly wandering around, carrying a blade.
It is believed the officer was injured as she tried to arrest the man, 31.
Although not stabbed, the extent of her injuries are unknown. She was treated in hospital.
A local man on his way to work said he’d seen someone lying on the pavement, in the recovery position, surrounded by 15 officers.
There were also rumours it was in fact the policewoman and that she needed CPR at the scene.UPDATE: Dead man namedFife divisional commander, Chief Superintendent Garry McEwan, said: “This is a tragic set of circumstances and my condolences go to the man’s family.”
The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal service are responsible for investigating deaths in Scotland.
They have instructed the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner to lead on the inquiry.
