An overheating laptop started a fire in a Fife house last night.
Firefighters were called to the house in Garry Park, Glencraig, shortly after 11.30pm. Two appliances from Lochgelly and a crew from Dunfermline rushed to the scene to tackle a small fire in the bedroom.
Thankfully no-one was injured, but the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is warning the public to be aware of the dangers.Station manager Dave Wishart said: “The fire was caused by a laptop which had been left plugged in on the floor. It had overheated causing the carpet to catch alight.”He said while it was a relatively small fire, it had caused extensive damage to the bedroom and some damage to the remainder of the property due to the presence of a small gas canister.
“Thankfully no one was hurt,” he said. “This incident had the potential to be even more serious and we can’t stress enough how important it is to use electrical equipment safely and consider where you keep gas containers, however small, within the house.
“Even very small amounts can cause substantial damage.”
Mr Wishart urged the public to ensure they have a working smoke alarm and issued a reminder the service provided free home fire safety visits, which included the fitting of smoke alarms where needed.
