Water problems close schools and nurseries in Fife
ByJonathan Watson
Several Fife schools have been closed this morning due to water problems in central and west Fife.
Six schools, including Lochgelly High School, and six nurseries are closed following issues with loss of water pressure and dirty water coming from taps.
Scottish Water has now resolved the problem, which was first reported in the early hours of the morning.
Other affected schools include Kinglassie, St Ninians, Benarty, Cardenden and St Kenneth Primarys and associated nurseries, with several hundred pupils thought to have been sent home.
It is not known if other properties have been affected by the water problems.
A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “Scottish Water operatives have now fixed a fault to a valve at Navitie Reservoir which caused disruption to supplies to customers in Ballingry, Cardenden, Lochgelly, and Kincardine.
“This was a complicated repair and we apologise to customers affected by the disruption.
“The majority of supplies are now restored and this will continue throughout the day as the network returns to normal.
“Any customers experiencing discoloured water should run their kitchen tap at half pressure until the supply is clear.”
