Etape Caledonia aims to raise the bar for charity fundraising

The Etape Caledonia is now an established annual charity event.

The organisers of one of Scotland’s biggest cycling events are aiming to raise the bar this year in terms of charity donations.

Etape Caledonia, which sets off in Pitlochry, should have around 5,000 entrants when it takes place on Sunday May 10, and it is hoped the event will raise more than £350,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

General entries for the 2015 Etape Caledonia sold out in less than three days as cycling enthusiasts from across the country secured their place at the start line.

Providing care for more than 40,000 terminally ill people and their families in the UK each year, the money raised at what is regarded as the UK’s premier closed road event, will help Marie Curie Nurses care for people living with a terminal illness.

James Wright, from Marie Curie, said: “A must for any keen cyclist, the Etape Caledonia is a unique event that has participants coming back year after year.

“It’s a great way to challenge yourself, meet new people and fundraise for Marie Curie, letting us help more people that need it.”
