Kirrie man blasts thief who stole from mum’s graveside

A GRIEVING son has blasted the “lowlife scumbag” who stole a hand-crafted memorial from his mother’s graveside.

The personalised wooden slab was taken from Longforgan cemetery just months after the death of Lilian Wilson.

Ian Anderson (47), from Kirriemuir, hit out at the thief in a post online.

He wrote: “What lowlife scumbag steals out of Longforgan cemetery? I placed this on my mother’s grave and someone has stolen it.”

Ian’s wife Lynne (41) appealed for the return of the painstakingly-created memorial, which has significant sentimental value to the family.

She said: “Ian made it himself because he thought it would be something nice to put beside the grave. At that point the headstone was not yet on.

“We bought the wooden slab and it took Ian two days to paint-on the detailed markings.”

The theft was reported to the police after Ian’s father discovered it was missing during a visit to the cemetery.

A spokesman for Perth and Kinross Council confirmed the theft had been reported to its bereavement services team.
