A major manhunt is under way after an attack on a woman in Inchture.
Dozens of units, including a helicopter and dogs, are in the area hunting the suspect.
The 27-year-old victim was hurt in the incident and was taken to Ninewells Hospital, although her injuries are not thought to be serious.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “At about 8.50am on Saturday a 27-year-old female was assaulted at the rear of a property in Orchard Way, Inchture.
“She has been conveyed to Ninewells Hospital for assessment but her injuries are not considered to be serious.
“The person responsible was not known to the victim and ran off from the area after the incident.
“He is described as being in his late 20s, stocky build with dark hair and was wearing a shiny blue top and black bottoms.”
The spokesman added: “A significant number of officers are in the area at this time conducting investigations into the incident, including specialist police dogs.
“Anyone who has information which might assist officers is requested to call 101, speak to any officers or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
Residents said police had spent the morning stopping cars and questioning drivers, as well as carrying out door-to-door enquiries.
One Inchture man told The Courier: “When I first heard about it I jumped in the car and headed straight round as my parents live on Orchard Crescent.
“There were police cars on the main street stopping cars and checking who was inside. When I got into Orchard Way there were loads more police.
“There were about five teams of two officers doing house-to-house inquiries, as well as lots of CID units and unmarked cars. I think the police helicopter was circling overhead and there were also dog units.
“This is a very quiet village, with a mix of old and new housing. It’s certainly quite an unusual thing to have happened as we are quite close-knit.
“After a couple of hours the police scaled back their operation but there were still units out and about on the Crescent.”
