Record-breaking cyclist Mark Beaumont k will take part in the four-day, 500km ride.

Record-breaking endurance cyclist Mark Beaumont is to take part in a 500-kilometre ride from London to Paris in support of a cancer charity.

The Perthshire adventurer will join more than 100 other participants from around the UK to raise funds for research into myeloma, which claimed the life of one of his friends.

Myeloma is a rare and incurable form of bone marrow cancer which sees about 4,800 new cases diagnosed each year in the UK.

The ride will see the 33-year-old adventurer cycle from Greenwich Park to the Eiffel Tower, via Calais.

Some of his fellow riders on the Myeloma UK fundraiser will include patients and their family members.

Beaumont said: “Myeloma UK is a fantastic charity that looks out for the needs of myeloma patients across the UK.

“I lost a close friend to this rare cancer and so it’s great to be working as part of a team that is passionate about making myeloma history.”

The cyclist’s previous achievements include becoming the fastest person to bike around the world and across the Americas. Last year, he became the fastest rider to cycle the length of Africa.

He said: “Cycling from London to Paris is no mean feat and it’s a great way for supporters and those who love cycling to make a real difference to the lives of myeloma patients.

“I can’t wait to ride back into Paris, which is a special place for me because it is where my world cycle finished.

“There is no better feeling in the world than challenging yourself on two wheels and I’m looking forward to meeting the people who are taking on the ride for this amazing charity.”

The Myeloma UK London Paris Ride takes place between May 5 and 9.
