A lovelorn moose has made a second bid for freedom in a week.
Hercules, a six-year-old bull moose, broke out of his enclosure at Pitcastle Estate on Saturday evening.
He was last seen at 7am on Monday by the side of the A9, near Dalnacardoch Wood about 30 miles away from his home at Strathtay.
Motorist Jenni McAllister told The Courier she spotted the errant elk as she was driving towards Perth.
She said: “He was just standing there by the road at the end of the dual carriageway section.
“I thought it was a big deer and when I slowed down, I realised it was a moose.
“He just took off across the road and up the hill.”
Hercules’ exploits have been blamed on the rutting season the annual mating period of ruminant animals like deer, sheep and moose.
His latest escape bid comes just a week after he went missing and was pictured near the popular Queen’s View beauty spot.
As he hasn’t yet found a suitable companion, it is understood he could be heading towards the Highland Wildlife Park, which is home to a female European elk called Cas.
Hercules has been hand reared and does not pose any risk to the public, but anyone with any information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 and quote reference number 157 so he can be traced and returned to Pitcastle Estate.
