Bemused Top Gear viewers were bamboozled to see Highland Perthshire transformed into the Home Counties on last night’s episode.
Jeremy Clarkson tore around the picturesque landscape and said he was in the “motoring nirvana” of Hertfordshire “just 40 miles from London”.
But the curious claim failed to fool anyone familiar with the landscape.
Atholl Palace, Pitlochry High Street and even a “Welcome to Pitlochry” sign were clearly visible before Clarkson took to the open roads of Glen Shee.
Viewers took to this website to vent their frustration.
Low Gear said: “That was a puzzling comment from Clarkson…
“The ‘20 mph village scene’ could have been in Hertfordshire, until you see the large ‘Pitlochry’ sign above a shop, and the Ferrari rolling down a hill with the Atholl Palace Hotel in the background.
“I guess the real giveaways that this was not Hertfordshire were (i) there was actually a geographical feauture on the horizon, (ii) the hills were bigger than molehills, (iii) the large amounts of snow, and (iii) large car-free stretches of the Moulin-Kirkmichael road, Glenshee, and A9.
“I wonder where they were when they said they were in Sweden? Maybe they’re still using a Volvo satnav?”
Back in May The Courier reported on the stir caused by the Top Gear team when they motored into Pitlochry.
A Ferrari was filmed on Atholl Road and excited car enthusiasts started posting their supercar spots on the internet.
Today Twitter was a sea of confusion.
Douglas F Shearer wrote: “Ferrari F12 on TG is so impressive it turns Hertfordshire into Perthshire, including Pitlochry High Street.”
Rhiannon Lorimer added: “Is anyone watching Top Gear? If so why is Jeremy Clarkson pretending he’s thrashing a Ferrari in Hertfordshire when he’s in Pitlochry?!”
Dundee’s East End councillor Will Dawson also posted: “Outrage in Pitlochry!”
