Police are hunting brazen thieves who broke into a cash machine in North Muirton and stole a sum of money.
The incident took place around 3am on Tuesday at the ATM outside the Co-operative shop in Argyll Road, Perth.
Damage to the steel shutter protecting the shop suggests the thieves also tried to break in there, but police have refused to comment on this.
Police are appealing for information.
“The ATM was targeted at around 3am this morning, where thieves made off with a quantity of cash,” said a spokeswoman.
“Officers are carrying out house-to-house inquiries and a review of CCTV is under way.
“Tayside Division would appeal to any members of the public who were in the area at the time and saw any suspicious activity to contact Police Scotland on 101.”
Police refused to say how much money was stolen.
The incident follows a similar crime in Kinross-shire. Thieves used a tractor in an attempt to steal a cash machine from a wall beside Sainsbury’s in Station Road, Kinross, on October 17.
The thieves tried to ram raid the cash machine at around 3.30am that day.
