Thousands of music fans will descend on Scone Palace this weekend for the popular Rewind Festival.

Taking place for the fifth time at the Perthshire venue, the ’80s-themed event is expected to attract about 35,000 people over the weekend.

A host of bands and artists from that era including Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), Kim Wilde, Jimmy Somerville, Sister Sledge, Bananarama, Belinda Carlisle and Howard Jones will perform.

In addition, former Thompson Twin Tom Bailey will headline the event on Saturday and the other acts range from Kid Creole to From the Jam, featuring legendary bassist Bruce Foxton.

Campers arrived at Scone Palace yesterday and many revellers are expected to dress up in ’80s attire this weekend, including mullet wigs and colourful clothes.

Friday night’s entertainment included a silent disco and a funfair.

Rewind has grown in stature since it first came to Scone Palace in 2011 and it now claims to boast the strongest ’80s line-up in the world.

Festival organiser David Heartfield said the 1980s represented his “lost youth” as he explained how Rewind originated.

“We had done a number of ’80s retro shows over the last couple of years, all of which attracted a 10,000-capacity sell-out crowd so we decided to expand the concept into a full weekend camping festival,” he said.

“Hopefully the festival will be known for a sense of fun in a beautiful riverside setting.”

Those attending the festival are advised to take waterproof clothing, with rain showers expected during the course of the weekend.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “Saturday will start off cloudy and bring showery weather, which might become heavier as you move through the morning.

“Temperatures will start in the mid-teen level around 15C.

“Sunday looks fairly dry but will still be cloudy and although it will hang about, it looks dry enough until the afternoon when more rain moves in.

“There will be fairly strong winds as well, which could reach 28mph, along with the rain and that will be quite blustery.”

Festival organisers are advising people to arrive by midday both on Saturday and Sunday to avoid being stuck in any queues.
