The organisers of T in the Park have strenuously rejected claims that there could be traffic problems when the event takes place next summer.
DF Concerts, who run the music festival, told The Courier they have “huge experience” in running traffic management plans for major events and stated it is “too early” to provide one for the new site at Strathallan in Perthshire.
Andrew Carrie, a traffic expert who had been asked to carry out a traffic review of the surrounding area on behalf of opponents of the move to host the festival there, cast doubt on whether rural roads could be used for such a major event.
He said that many of the roads near the new site “are not suitable” for “intensive” bus use and he was doubtful that the rural road network could accommodate the number of large lorries travelling to and from the estate at Strathallan.
However, a spokeswoman for T in the Park disputed these claims and pointed out that the festival has been able to deal with similar traffic issues in the past.
She explained: “We have a highly experienced traffic management team that designs plans for major events all over the UK.
“One of the key deciding factors on choosing a new venue was ensuring that it had a workable traffic route to ensure ease of travel for both festival-goers and the local community.
“It is too early to give a detailed outline of the full traffic management plan this has to go through consultation with the council, other partners and, of course, the local community.
“But do rest assured that these consultations are taking place and full details will be released thereafter,” she added.
