T in the Park move to Strathallan supported by conservation watchdog

Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), Scotland’s conservation watchdog, has voiced its support for plans to stage this summer’s T in the Park in the grounds of Strathallan Castle.

SNH revealed it will not object to the festival’s move to a new home within the 1,000-acre Perthshire estate.

In its formal submission to Perth and Kinross Council the government-funded body says it is backing the environment statement drawn up by experts on behalf of organisers, DF Concerts.

In his letter, David Bale, SNH’s area manager for Tayside and Grampian, said he supported steps being taken to protect the area’s otter, bats, red squirrels and ospreys.

He said that the management plan which includes moving an osprey nest to another location outside the main festival site should be effective, but suggested that conditions be imposed to ensure monitoring is carried out to meet licensing needs and minimise any remaining risks.
