Anti-windfarm group plans mass protest outside SNP conference in Perth

Scots have been urged to join a mass protest against windfarms when Alex Salmond visits Perth next month.

Campaigners from across the country are poised to besiege the SNP conference to call for a rethink of the Scottish Government’s windfarm policy, with a large representation expected from an area last night described as the “last bastion” in the fight against major developments.

Campaign group Scotland Against Spin has applied for permission to march through Perth on Saturday October 19 before gathering outside Perth Concert Hall for a mass protest.

They believe a show of strength is vital to halt the spread of turbines across Scotland as the Government tries to meet renewable energy targets.

Scotland Against Spin has also called on politicians from all parties to nail their colours to the mast and say where they stand in the debate which has divided communities.

In a letter sent to every councillor, MSP, MEP and MP in Scotland, Graham Lang, chairman of Scotland Against Spin, said: “People from all over Scotland are coming to Perth to tell the Government that we have had enough of their developer-led wind policy and it’s time for a rethink.

“Please come to Perth on October 19 if you can. Show the people who voted for you that you are listening and lend them your support in protesting against the Government’s ruinous wind energy policy.”

A planned procession through Perth will come to a climax with a rally outside the SNP conference in Perth Concert Hall where Alex Salmond will be addressing delegates.
