Police are investigating after school pupils uncovered a camera in changing rooms at a sports centre.
Students at James Gillespie’s High School in Edinburgh found the camera at the city’s Meadowbank Sports Centre while getting changed for a PE lesson.
Police closed the changing rooms following the discovery of the suspicious device on Wednesday afternoon and are examining how the camera got there and how long it has been in place.
Parents of pupils at the school have been informed.
The changing room alternates between being used for males and females, and is used by members of the public attending the centre as well as school pupils.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh were made aware of a suspicious camera within the Meadowbank Sports Centre changing room.
“Inquiries are ongoing.”
Edinburgh City Council arms-length company Edinburgh Leisure runs the centre, and it said precautions are being taken to safeguard against any further cameras being installed.
She said: “Police Scotland is investigating an incident which occurred yesterday and all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure it remains an isolated incident. I am unable to discuss any of the specifics at this time while a Police Scotland investigation is under way.”
A council spokesman said the local authority is assisting police with their inquiries.
