Dundee player Paul McGowan to stand trial over police assault charge

Dundee footballer Paul McGowan will stand trial next year accused of kicking a police officer.

The 27-year-old is alleged to have “struggled violently” with five officers in Airdrie on Sunday before allegedly kicking a community support constable at Coatbridge Police station.

McGowan has been charged with obstructing five officers, assaulting another and causing fear or alarm through threatening or abusive behaviour.

McGowan denies all the charges and a trial has been set for Airdrie Sheriff Court on March 26, with an intermediate hearing on February 23.

Dundee FC has refused to comment on the court case.
