Happy(ish) memories of iconic Perth’s Zoo nightclub
ByDave Lord
Ahh memories.
News of Zoo’s demise has brought them flooding back.
If you could extricate your feet from the sticky carpet and make it to the dance floor, Curly Lloyds (as it was in my day) was quite the place.
A heady mix of a low entry fee (free if you went at ridiculously-early-o’clock), cheap booze and woeful tunes combined to ensure a rambunctious, if at times slightly threatening, atmosphere.
Many happy nights concluded with a merry stagger back to my flat just a couple of hundred yards away more often than not for a death-defying game of darts in the spare room.
Arguably more important than any of that (but only arguably) it was where I met my wife-to-be.
She was only there because she was locked out of her flat and her landlady happened to be out for the night she therefore had no real choice but to join her.
A remarkable twist of fate that she very probably regrets to this day.
No doubt people across Perth will be recalling similar happy(ish) memories.
