What a feeling that was!
We’ve won the World Championship, European Championship and Scottish Championship but none of them carried the pressure of an Olympics.
To see my last stone find its target a couple of hours ago was probably the most relieved I’ve ever felt.
You hear the “rollercoaster of emotions” clich a lot in sport, but it really has been the case for us over the last couple of days.
We came here looking for gold so it was a huge blow to lose to Canada in the semi-finals.
But, there was no way we were going to feel sorry for ourselves, and winning the bronze medal play-off gave us the chance to go out on a high.
I’m so proud of the girls for the way we fought back in the Switzerland game.
When you look at how relatively few medals Britain win at Winter Olympics, it puts into context what we’ve achieved.
Plus, we’re the youngest ever team to be on the podium for curling in the history of the Games.
We’ve got so many goals we still want to achieve, and this medal is another step forward.
There’s still a few days to go here, and we’re all looking forward to a bit of celebrating with our families and friends, and going to see a few of the other sports (not to mention cheering on David Murdoch and the boys in their final, of course!)
The support here in Sochi has been amazing, and so has the support back home.
I’m so chuffed we were able to do The Courier readers proud and come back with a medal.
* I’d like to give a special mention to Lauren Gray, who has been out with us here as our reserve.
Lauren would only have played if one of us took ill or got injured. Thankfully that didn’t happen so Lauren didn’t get on the ice, but I know she has been grateful of the experience she’s got from being at an Olympics.
She’s been a great addition to the team and I can reveal has passed her most important task of the Games with flying colours – preparing the goodie bag for our half-time break!
Lauren always puts together our little bag. It’s basically fruit, cereal bars and sugary things to keep our energy levels up. And Lauren decides what it will be made up of. Every game’s been a surprise, but it’s never been a bad one!
* After hearing what Elise Christie was saying about the social media abuse she received after her second disqualification in the speed skating, I’m so glad we all made the decision before we flew out to Russia to shut-down our personal Twitter accounts.
I must admit it has felt weird not to switch on our phones and catch up with the latest Tweets. It’s only when you don’t use Twitter that you realise how addicted you’ve become! But it was a small sacrifice to make sure we were all 100% focused on what we were here for.
And, although I’m sure most of the posts would have been positive, as Elise has found there are always people out there who want to be nasty and negative. That’s not something you want to read when you’re at an Olympics.
Having a look at two weeks’ worth of Tweets now will take some doing though!
