Ryan Conroy told to take heart from RVP-like strike

Dundee midfielder Ryan Conroy has been urged to believe in himself as much as his manager does.

Dens boss John Brown heaped praise on Conroy, highlighting his derby goal against Dundee United as a strike which Manchester United and Holland ace Robin van Persie would have loved to have called his own.

His twist then rocket shot with his left foot put the Dark Blues into a winning position at Tannadice, only for the Tangerines to level late.

Brown feels that, having produced a piece of skill like that, the former Celtic man should be brimming with confidence.

“Ryan is a really talented lad,” said the Dundee boss. “If van Persie had hit the kind of goal he got in the derby then we would all have been raving about it.

“It was such a good strike and it showed what Ryan has to offer when he is in that kind of form. He just needs to believe in himself more and once he has that confidence he can do even greater things.

“Not many people have the sort of left foot he has. Ryan can make things happens and I have asked him to do that.”

Conroy should get his chance to show what he can do when Motherwell visit Dens on Saturday as the action resumes following the international break.

They may be 13 points adrift of closest rivals St Mirren at the foot of the SPL but Brown insists the fight will go on when the Steelmen come calling.

He said: “The boys are giving me and the club everything. Until someone tells us it is mathematically impossible we will keep trying to pick up as many points as possible and see where it takes us.”
