Ryan Gauld is officially a Sporting Lisbon player.
The Dundee United winger completed his deal in the early hours of the morning and the Portugese giants have released a picture of him in the green and white hoops with their most famous ex-players Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Figo in the background.
The 18-year-old is understood to have agreed a six-year deal and the club are reported to have inserted a 60m Euros sell-on value into his contract.
That’s a sign of how highly they rate the Scotland under-21 international.
It has been a whirlwind 48 hours for Gauld.
After the broad principles of the deal were agreed between Lisbon and United late on Monday, he flew out with his agent John Colquhoun for face to face talks on Tuesday afternoon.
Terms were agreed within hours – and the loose ends tied up with the Tangerines – and Lisbon even rushed through a late night medical so they could unveil their new signing.
United issued a statement of their own this morning.
It read: “Subject to the usual formalities, Dundee United confirm the transfer of Ryan Gauld to Sporting Lisbon, for an undisclosed fee, was completed last night. Everyone at the club wishes Ryan sincere best wishes in his future career.”
Gauld can now look forward to the prospect of Champions League football at his new club.
