Dundee United 0 Celtic 2: Tangerines’ cup dreams dashed
ByNews reporter
Celtic proved too strong for 10-man Dundee United in Sunday’s Scottish League Cup final.
It was a final to forget for United captain Sean Dillon, who was off the pitch receiving treatment when Celtic went ahead with a Kris Commons goal midway through the first half.
The Irishman then saw red early in the second half for a lunge on Emilio Izaguirre, and Celtic took advantage with a goal from substitute James Forrest, who also missed a late penalty.
One of the few highlights on a disappointing day for the United fans was a moving tribute to club legend Frank Kopel. Supporters of both clubs joined in a minute’s applause to show their support for the Frank’s Law campaign.
United now have to pick themselves up for Wednesday’s Scottish Cup quarter-final replay at Celtic Park.Click here for Ian Roache’s match report and here for our fan photo gallery. And see Monday’s Courier for reaction and photos from the cup final.
