Two men who forced their way into a house in Leven on Monday night are being sought by police.
The men confronted the householder during the incident in Baird Crescent at around 11.30pm but made off empty handed.
Police said the householder was not injured.
As officers carried out door-to-door inquiries in the area, they appealed for witnesses.
Detective Constable Mark Falconer, who is leading the inquiry, said: “We are keen to trace anyone who was in the area of Baird Crescent and Rose Terrace around the time of the incident and who may have seen the men responsible.
“We are also appealing to those in the community who have knowledge of the incident to come forward.
“Fortunately the male householder was not injured in the incident but was clearly shaken.”
