Night-time visitors to the Tesco store in South Road, Dundee, were thrilled to find a till error was slashing the price of beer and cider.
A deal offering three boxes of alcoholic beverages for £20 was going through the tills at three for £11.
Tesco said a number of its Scottish stores were affected by the pricing error, but it had been resolved by early evening.
Workers on the checkouts were asked to manually price items, much to the dismay of customers looking to make merry at the store’s expense.
Word of the mistake broke quickly, and one Twitter user wrote, “Am I the only one thinking reaction to Tesco cheap beer error proves the point on minimum pricing?”
It was reported that in Greenock police had to be called after heavy congestion was reported in the car park as customers rushed to get the deal.
It is understood the offer was supposed to be “buy three boxes of beer and save £11.”
