‘They’ve probably been there since Culloden’ Carse of Gowrie trees felled by storm

A Longforgan councillor has spoken of his sadness after a number of old trees in the area collapsed during Tuesday’s storm.
The trees, between Longforgan Station and Templehall Crossing, are said to be hundreds of years old.
Although some were believed to be earmarked for felling in the near future, the severity of Tuesday’s weather meant many were brought to the ground prematurely.
Workers were removing debris from the site on Thursday in what will be a major change in the local landscape.
Councillor Peter Mulheron said: ”The trees are well over 200 years old they’ve probably been there since Culloden.
”There was a tree surgeon there recently brought in by the landowner but the winds have obviously blown them down.
”I’m amazed at how little damage there has been to the area though. Nobody has phoned up to report any problems to me.”
